Distributions are convenient to use, contain binaries, however are never 100% up-to-date.
I suggest putting a mini-tutorial on the image which describes how to update the kernel and the SPS2-module (and of course put the sps2-license and a link to this site and everything on the image too).
From my personal point of view I was a bit scared when I read the license the first time, because the license disallows creating an embedded system using PS2Linux and SPS2.
I however think that creating an embedded PS2Linux-system (either on HD or on Memorycard) with SPS2 is a _major_ strength.
Just think of the cave-system made up by 3 PS2-Linux-kits; no one will alter the system, once it is finished; Most likely such a system will never even give its user a shell-prompt. It would probably even lead to complications if you update somthing in this system.

If your are interested: I am trying to compile the knoppix cloop-km for for the PS2-kernel. It enables you to mount a compressed ISO-image, which would eliminate the need for decompressing a ramdisk to ps2 main-memory. (and save quite a few megs for games)
I hope that my english is not too bad. I'm from Austria, and my native language is german. |
