It sounds like the newer adaptor - I had the same problem, I had to use Falcon's patch here: http://skygate.bravehost.com/NetworkAdaptor.html to get it to even connect to the network (some slight differences between the original Linux adaptor (which didn't work) and the new one Sarah E. sent me).
