Mozilla for PlayStation2 - ppietro - 2009-Oct-03 18:12 Hi everyone,
Well - it's been a fun ride! I've un-hidden all my projects and cleaned up the site for archiving.
I learned a lot making Mozilla all these years. Thanks to Sony and SCEE for making the opportunity available.
Take care,
Paul

The Future of Mozilla for the PlayStation2
Mozilla for PlayStation2 - ppietro - 2007-Nov-09 04:09 Hi everyone,
I could have sworn that I updated the News section a few months ago... but even if I did, it's gone now.
"So - what's going on with Mozilla for the PS2?" you might be wondering.
Well - I'm kind of spinning the project down. There's a couple of reasons.
The main reason is that Firefox 2.0's memory footprint seems to be larger than Firefox 1.5. What this means is that the performance of Firefox 2.0 suffers on the PS2 compared to Firefox 1.5.
Unfortunately, the Firefox team has officially halted development on Firefox 1.5 with build 1.5.0.12, so there won't be any more updates to that build tree. I'll continue to build Firefox 2.0 when I get time, but the performance hit may make it less desireable than 1.5.

Yay! Cross-compiling machine back up - new Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 to celebrate!
Mozilla for PlayStation2 - ppietro - 2007-Jan-29 14:28 Hi everyone,
Posted a new build of Thunderbird 1.5.0.9. Enjoy!
As for the delay - I finally got around to booting Linux on my cross-compiling machine. I had to replace the motherboard on that computer, and the new motherboard doesn't have a "boot menu" like the old one did. So - I had to switch boot devices in the BIOS, and add a Windows entry for GRUB. I generally keep my Linux and Windows installations on physically separate drives with their own boot sectors. GRUB makes this fairly painless - but not as painless as a motherboard "boot menu".
SeaMonkey 1.1 coming soon - when I get a little time! ^_^
Cheers,
Paul

Firefox 2.0.0.1 - Happy Belated Holidays!
Mozilla for PlayStation2 - ppietro - 2007-Jan-04 18:54 Hi everyone,
In the midst of making some new 1.5.0.9 builds - to catch up with some security patches - I tried to build the latest 2.0.0.1 source...
...and....
IT WORKED!
Holy cow! I had tried building this before and couldn't get it to finish without erroring out. However - this time - it built like a charm.
I haven't tried out all of the advanced functions yet - like the new spell checker, etc. - so use it at your own risk.
But - based on my initial testing, it seems just fine.
Cheers,
Paul

Sunbird 0.3a2+ posted and Where Is Firefox 1.5.0.6?
Mozilla for PlayStation2 - ppietro - 2006-Aug-07 17:14 Hi everyone,
OK - I've just posted an early build of Sunbird 0.3. This is the Alpha 2+ build. I can't seem to build it with the normal gtk libraries, so I had to do a gtk2 build.
If you already have the gtk2 and associated libraries, you can save some download time and disc space by downloading the standard build. Otherwise - you'll have to download the build with the additional libs included. (This is the sunbird-0.3a2+.en-US.linux-mipsel-gtk2libs.tar.bz2 build.) They're both in the files section.
In other news, there's a new build of Firefox out from Mozilla. However - build 1.5.0.6 was generated to fix a Windows Media Player plugin bug. Since the Windows Media Player isn't currently running on PlayStaion 2 Linux, I'm not immediately generating a build. I plan on making one in the near future - it's just not a high priority. In all other respects, 1.5.0.6 is identical to 1.5.0.5.
