SUBJECT: I can't bring up eth0. Please Help!

Hi.
I used to be able to use the network with the PS2, but now I can't. when i try to bring it up with "ifup eth0" it just says: "[USAGE] ifup <device name>". I don't know, but maybe the driver for it got deleted somehow.
I have tryed haveing it connected while starting up, but still doesn't help.
Although, when I plug in or out the network cable (it's not the cable, i checked it out) it says
"eth0: Auto Negotion Complete
100 mbps Full-Duplex" (when pluged in)
&
"eth0: Link down" (when unplugged)

I really need help, i have files on the HDD of it that i want and i can't get them off there... :-(

please reply to this with help (if possible, this is the first time I have used this fourm, I couldn't find it before) or email: adman.com@ gmail .com (remove some spaces out of the email address)

Thanks!
