SUBJECT: Help - C Programming tools

Hello all, I am trying to use my Linux kit to program in either 'C' or C++. As I am not too familiar with Linux I am finding this quite difficult. I have just managed to start a Gnome session and have looked for the appropriate tools. I understand that 'gcc' is a 'C' compiler, and 'pcc' is a precompiler - but surely there is a development suite, perhaps with a GUI. I have tryed to compose small programs with a text editor, then running 'gcc' on the text file - but without much sucess. Please advise me if you can, cheers Nick.
