SUBJECT: Network...

hi,

I have an SCPH-50000 and a Router who normally assigns the ips himself and i'm new to Linux. When I boot Linux the eth0 thing failed. It seems I have to insmod smap.o.
I found smap.o in /lib/modules/2.2.1/misc but when i wanted to insmod it, it sais that a module named smap already exists, but when I ping my router or pc it sais that the Network is unreachable.
I tried to ifconfig my ip:
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.5 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
then it sais:
eth0: link not valid
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted
eht0: link not valid
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted

i don't know what to do
can someone help me?
