Summary:15 March 2004: Linux for PlayStation 2 pricing

On the 15th March 2004, Linux for PlayStation 2 was reduced in price.

Consequently the kit has sold out in North America, and been discontinued in that territory.

Sales continue in Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and other PAL territories.

Complete information is available in the FAQ under "Availability".

For Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the new price is €149 + tax. If you have any connection with a school or university, let us know about it to obtain the discounted price of €99 + tax.

(Please be reassured that playstation2-linux.com continues to fill with material, and will be maintained and hosted for as long as is possible, long after stock is sold out).

Enjoy!

SUBJECT: Reasons?

What was the true reason for the reduction in price?

Is it truely that the cost of hardware has dropped, or does Sony think that the Linux Kit was a bad idea and is trying to get rid of the remaining kits by any means possible?

My opinion: if the price is less, more people will want one. If Sony is not going to produce any more kits, then chances are that many people will not get one.

I would like to get a second kit just in case DVD1 is stolen/damaged/unreadable. It looks like I will just have to keep DVD1 locked in my safe for now, because everything provided with the kit is useless without DVD1 (to me anyway).

PLEASE DO NOT STOP PRODUCING PLAYSTATION-2 LINUX KITS
