Hi,

I use one of the new memor32 memorycards which have a mod chip inside. I managed to start the kernelloader elf file with the boot option of this device. My question is now how do I get a linux rhinodistribution onto my internal hdd and boot it with the kernelloader elf. Is there a tutorial already out? Anyway I guess it is a great thing to get linux without the RTE to boot. With the new memor32 memorycard mod chip you can than boot linux by pressing one button during boot up. That sounds really great.

Does this also work for the APA support to use HDL and Linux? Sounds great! What are the limitations to the normal RTE Boot?

My kernel doesn't include APA support. You can download kernels with APA support from the official website responsible for RTE PS2 Linux. There was already a discussion about it.

The description of the limitations are complex and can be seen in the tables:

The summary is:
- Sound is not working.
- Hard disc can't use DMA.
- Video and audio DVDs are not working.

I don't know if the following is a difference between TGE and RTE, because there were reports that RTE is also not working with it.
- Remote control is not working. I can't find anything about it in RTE. Seems to be a BBnav device speciality.
- USB is not working on slim PSTwo (e.g. SCPH-70000). I believe interrupts are not reported from IOP to EE correctly. Hard disc seems also not to work on PSTwo. Network was reported to work, but I believe when interrupts are not working, then this should also not work on a slim PSTwo.

Well first of all I will give your howto a try and after this works I can go on.

So my list will look like this:

1. Use your howto and install blackrhino basic
2. try to update to a x system
3. apa support
4. perhaps a howto which includes my experiences (e.g.: memor32)

... and with a little luck you can work around the bugs and add the missing features in the meantime X-)

I read through the howto from http://playstation2-linux.com/projects/apa/ for the rhino distribution with APA support. Is it possible to use these Kernel and initr files which are included in the howto? Would not make a big change to give it a try as I see for now. All you have to do is make a backup (perhaps best way via your kernel with vfat support onto usbstick) install HDL start your howto and instead of the rhino package install the backup and use the apa support kernel. What do you think. Am I right or is there something I am missing?!?
