Release Name: 2.2.21-pre1-xr7 [Download]

Notes: This release of the 2.2.x-xr series kernels is a huge jump due to much work done by the people over at Sony Computer Enterainment Japan. The 2.2.1 kernel originally released with the Playstation 2 Linux kit has been updated for Sony's BroadBand Navigator (BBN) that was released in Japan several months ago. The BBN came with a newer version of the Linux kernel source code, namely 2.2.19. The 2.2.19 code base provided a much better spring board to update to 2.2.21 and that is what has been done. This pre1 release still is without some features we would like to put in the xr7 release, but works well enough that we feel confident in releasing it for testing and bug reports. See the Changelog for more details into what has been improved/added to this release.

Changes:
  • Everything that the 2.2.19 stock kernel has in it
  • ReiserFS support
  • Updated UDF support
  • No more closed-source binary modules (except for the SBIOS/IOP)
  • Low-latency patches (it actually works!)
  • IPv6 support
  • Many more configurable networking options
  • Fresh USB 2.2.21 sub-system (tons of more USB devices supported)
  • Many performance/functionality updates to the PS2-specific device drivers
