SUBJECT: eth0 Locking Console on boot.

I have reinstalled linux on a PS2 with the Network and Modem card. I have installed the patched smap.o as described in http://playstation2-linux.com/project/shownotes.php?release_id=68.
The console now locks up during the boot process on bringing up eth0. What else do I need to do?
