SUBJECT: Would the hdcombo work?

I saw this on a modchip site and I know that's now what we're supposed to talk about but it is actually not a modchip in the usual sense at all.

It claims to allow the slim PS2s to use a hard drive. I imagine it is aimed at people who want to save their games to it instead of a memory card, but if the PS2 can recognize it for this purpose, why not PS2 Linux?

If this uses more or less the same type of connection as the official drive, do you think this is a solution for being able to use PS2 Linux on the slim type? And would Linux know how to access the USB ports and ethernet ports assuming one could get it to work on the SCPH-7000?
